Unhelpful Thinking Styles
This is a topic that I go through with all clients early on in the therapy space.
I will come back to this topic time and time again, and I will refer to it time and time again. It is one of the major building blocks that therapy with me is built on. There are plenty of tools to get this information, and I'm putting it here because I think it should be available to anyone, and I want it available to my clients all of the time. So, helpful thinking styles are categorized in these ways.

I would like for you to ask yourself which of these do you use, ...honestly it is probably more than one.... and what examples can I give myself in the way I use them.
Most unhelpful thinking skills started off as coping skills. Usually at the time of therapy they are no longer helping us cope they are only helping us to stress ourselves out.
But if you can think back, what did the unhelpful thought do for you?

The general answer is usually it kept me safe and my parents taught me.
There is no reason to feel guilt around using unhelpful thinking. Please just welcome the understanding that there is just a more helpful, reasonable, comfortable a way of thinking that may take a little bit more effort at first, but eventually becomes just as automatic as unhelpful thinking.
